The Smear Campaign

The Smear Campaign is cosmetics company that advocates for healthy and responsible sexual education, awareness and sexual autonomy for women worldwide. Together, we can create healthier perspectives of female sexuality and give women the knowledge to make their own choices in regards to sexual, intimate or reproductive health without fear of shame or reprisal.

Words change meaning and popularity just as quickly as a tweet or text. And everyday there is an evolution; not only do the definitions of the actual words change but so does the setting in which we use them. For such fluid and inconsequential a thing as words, words have such immense power. So much so that words have created revolutions, beliefs, religions, hope, inspirations, wars, etc. In today’s society everyone has this power, they just don’t realize that they have it and what this power means.

Using our lipsticks as a tool to physically take back the meaning of these words and wear them quite literally as an empowering statement and a conversation starter. These words are ours now. We determine what they mean and how they’re used. And on top of changing the words connotations, we change the perceptions of female sexuality and a woman’s right to know about her own body, we can affect change in the lives of women worldwide.

Task

Our mission is to take back the words used against women and change the social conversation about women and sex; creating an open, honest, and equal culture that educates and respects positive female sexuality. We take issue with the idea that a women who is determined, passionate and/or simply doesn’t align with someone else’s ideas is too often labeled a “bitch” and when a women enjoys sex or expresses her sexuality openly, she is labeled a “slut”. We are redefining these terms.
